Few words about the origins and history of the company Skoda Auto.
In 1895, a mechanic V. Laurin and V. Klement founded their own factory for the fabrication of bicycles. The company enlarged its production and from 1899, they focused on motocycles. Later, in 1905, the new item started to be produced – cars. Laurin & Klement merged with the mechanical-engineering company Skoda in 1925. From 1945 – 1990, the company was called AZNP Mladá Boleslav, but the brand name Škoda was still used for its products. In 1990, the company was bought by Volkswagen Group, so its name changed again, to Skoda car company, JSC. This was necessary because the technologies were getting old and it was essential to reassure the competitiveness.
Nowadays, Skoda is one of the biggest producers of cars in the Czech republic. It also has the biggest share among the exported vehicles.
